What is a Virtual Desktop?

A Virtual Desktop gives you access to a LTC computer from virtually anywhere. Faculty & Staff can use Virtual Desktops to access the Intranet and other campus resources, while students can access Microsoft Office and applications required for their courses and programs.

Who Can Use It?

Virtual Desktops are available for:

  • Faculty & Staff who need access to the Intranet or other campus resources
  • Students who require program-specific software
  • Students, Faculty & Staff who needs access to Microsoft Office applications

Supported Devices

You can connect to an LTC Virtual Desktop from any device with an internet connection, including:

  • Windows computers
  • Mac computers
  • Chromebooks
  • iPads and other tablets

Note: Virtual Desktops work best on a laptop or desktop computer. While tablets are supported, they may be more difficult to use due to screen size and touch controls.

Accessing your Virtual Desktop

  1. Open a supported web browser:

    • Google Chrome
    • Mozilla Firefox
    • Safari
    • Microsoft Edge (current version)
  2. Visit: https://vdi.laniertech.edu/
    • A link to the Virtual Desktop system is also available from your LTC Laker Portal.
  3. Select VMware Horizon HTML Access, the recommended connection method.
    • Your virtual desktop will open directly in your web browser without requiring additional software.
  4. Sign in using your LTC email address and password.
  5. Select the tile for Librarynew. It may take a few moments for the desktop to load.
  6. Once you are finished using the virtual desktop, please disconnect or shutdown the desktop.

Important: Internet Explorer and legacy versions of Microsoft Edge are not supported.

The Virtual Desktop system uses a secure, encrypted connection to protect your information and provide safe access to campus resources.
